Upper Iowa University receives M.A.E. award
FAYETTE, IA (November 25, 2008) - Upper Iowa University has been selected as one of Military Advanced Education's Top Military Friendly Colleges and Universities Honorees for 2008.Each year, Upper Iowa University serves hundreds of military personnel through its distance education programs and off-campus learning centers, working closely with all branches of the service. This award is presented to institutions based on their service to military personnel, military-friendly policies, and flexible delivery options.
"We're truly pleased to be recognized in this way," said Barb Schultz, associate executive director of the Center for Distance Education. "We work hard to ensure that our programs and policies meet the needs of service members worldwide and, as this honor proves, we're meeting our objectives."
UIU has partnerships with Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges, the Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership, the Army through GoArmyEd, the Army National Guard Education Support Center, and the Coast Guard Institute to bring undergraduate and graduate programs to service members.
UIU offers competitive military undergraduate tuition rates so that service members using federally funded tuition-assistance benefits can maximize the number of courses they can take each year. UIU also offers a 10 percent tuition discount for all members of the armed forces and their spouse who are actively serving in the guard, reserves or branch of the armed forces. Retirees from active service can also enjoy this benefit, and scholarships are also available to military spouses.
