UIU Women’s Golf takes NSIC Championship
Rachael Schmidt Medalist by 19 Strokes
FAYETTE, Iowa (May 1, 2008)-Upper Iowa University (UIU) won its second consecutive NSIC Women's Golf Championship, finishing with a final four-round score of 1251. The Peacocks ran away with the championship,
finishing 69 strokes ahead of second place finisher Concordia-St. Paul (1320). Winona State finished third (1341) and Southwest Minnesota State came in fourth (1401).
Rachael Schmidt dominated the field finishing seven over par (295), 19 strokes ahead of her sister Rochelle Schmidt's second place finish (314). Other UIU finishes include Laura Taylor at fifth (319), Jill Preeshl at sixth (327), and Lindsey Holien finished one stroke outside of the top ten in 11th place (336).
Peacocks earn NSIC Postseason Honors
Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt was named NSIC Golfer of the Year for the first time in her outstanding career at Upper Iowa.
Chad Markuson was voted on by his peers as NSIC Women's Golf Coach of the Year after leading the Peacocks to a second straight NSIC Championship.
Rochelle Schmidt and Laura Taylor join Rachael on the 2007-08 NSIC Women's Golf All-Conference First Team.
Schmidt has an 81.43 scoring average through the season and has a low round of 74. She has won two tournaments this year and finished second at the NSIC Tournament.
Taylor has a scoring average of 83.91 with a low of 74 on the season; the 74 earned Taylor medalist honors one time this season.
