UIU successful at 2009 PBL state leadership conference
FAYETTE, IA (March 18, 2009) -Thirteen Upper Iowa University Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) chapter members received awards in individual, team and chapter events at the annual State Leadership Conference (SLC), held March 6 and 7 on the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls.
Upper Iowa University brought home three top chapter awards, including Iowa Chapter of the Year, Event Sponsorship, and Local Chapter Annual Business Report (written by Breina Burgin). UIU students competed against PBL representatives from University of Northern Iowa, Iowa State University, Grandview University, Ashford University, Wartburg College and Des Moines Area Community College.
Winners at the state level are eligible to compete at the 2009 National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, CA, June 20-23.
Upper Iowa University SLC individual award winners include:
1st Place - Laura Durance (Job Interview), Robert Bennett (Computer Concepts), Ashley Vsetecka (Management Concepts and Financial Analysis & Decision Making), Monte Graff (Information Management).
2nd Place - Robert Bennett (Accounting Analysis & Decision Making), Jerad Jandrain (Financial Analysis & Decision Making), Sam Hansel (Job Interview), Dani Dreeszen (Macroeconomics, Marketing Concepts, and Sports Management & Marketing), Breina Burgin (Accounting Principles).
3rd Place - Laura Durance (Future Business Executive and Public Speaking), Breina Burgin (Business Law and Sales Presentation), Jerad Jandrain (Financial Concepts), Mary Ohloff (Management Concepts), Robert Bennett (Marketing Concepts), Merry Stover (Microeconomics), Monte Graff (Client Service), Shannon Stone (Computer Applications).
4th Place - Sam Hansel (Impromptu Speaking), Merry Stover (Word Processing Fundamentals).
5th Place - Kellie Henniges (Business Communications), Mary Ohloff (Accounting Principles), Sam Hansel (Computer Applications).

2nd Place - Kellie Henniges and Jared Jandrain (Small Business Management Plan).
"We've got a great group of students this year, and I'm very proud of the strong showing they made," said Lynn Isvik, associate professor of business/division chair and chapter advisor. "I'm looking forward to more success at the national competition in June."
Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL) is a nonprofit organization that prepares students for careers in business and business education.
