International Business new major offered this fall
FAYETTE, Iowa (June 9, 2008) - As more and more companies go global, the need for a workforce that is prepared to do business in a competitive international environment becomes greater. To help address this need, Upper Iowa University (UIU) will introduce an undergraduate degree in International Business on its Fayette campus this fall.
This major will prepare graduates for entry-level global assignments in management, marketing or finance in multinational corporations or domestic organizations with significant global involvement. In addition to traditional business functions, students will learn how cultural, economic, legal, and political forces in other countries impact business attitudes and behavior.
"This major provides an exciting opportunity to build on our existing strengths, which include the university's international centers and business faculty who have significant international experience," said Lynn Isvik, business division chair and associate professor of business administration. "As enrollment in the major grows, we anticipate developing an international study trip, possibly including a job-shadow or internship component, utilizing expertise and contacts from staff in our international programs and centers."
Students enrolled in this major will be required to complete 12 semester hours of a foreign language and an internship in addition to business classes such as Cross-cultural Leadership and Cross-cultural Negotiation.
