Pande family presents UIU with substantial gift
UIU is former food service provider’s first account
FAYETTE, Iowa (June 6, 2007) – At the request of her late husband Lawrence (Larry) A. Pande, Jr., this week Maude E. Pande and family awarded Upper Iowa University (UIU) a gift of $75,000 to go toward scholarships in recognition of the anniversary of their former company, Professional Food-Service Management, Inc. (PFM). It was on June 7, 1965 that the Pandes launched their food service business, with Upper Iowa University being their first account.
UIU President Dr. Alan Walker expressed his appreciation by
saying, “Larry and Maude Pande have long been generous supporters of Upper Iowa University, a relationship that goes back over 40 years. With their most recent gift, they have continued their great legacy at Upper Iowa for helping deserving students to realize their goal of getting a college degree.” Walker added, “The Pandes are truly an inspiration for us all.”
The Pande family has a history of helping Upper Iowa University students graduate with less debt. In 1990, they established the interdisciplinary Pande Scholarship that is awarded annually to a deserving UIU student. The 2007 recipients included Jill Christofferson of Postville, Iowa and Danielle Dreeszen of Spirit Lake, Iowa.
In 1996, PFM merged with Compass Group, named by Fortune magazine in 2006 as the world’s 12th largest employer. The Compass Group specializes in food management and hospitality, with associates throughout the U.S., Latin America and Canada. Its parent company is U.K.-based Compass Group P.L.C.
“Upper Iowa was the beginning of a fine company and one that I have many fond memories of as we grew and grew,” said Mrs. Pande. “Larry loved being a part of the university, the town of Fayette, and the many friends he made there.”
Maude Pande currently resides in Tequesta, Fla.; she has three children, Lorrie, Stephen and Jim; and seven grandchildren.
