UIBD grant funds presented to Sumner couple
FAYETTE, IA (July 30, 2009) -- Members of the Upper Iowa Business Development (UIBD) Grant Advisory Committee presented a check for $40,000 to Steve and Pam Rogers of Sumner on Wed., July 29.
The Rogers will utilize the funds to help open the S.K. Rogers Funeral Chapel this fall on Main Street, Fayette. Construction on the funeral home is set to begin this month.
"We are pleased to make our second UIBD grant award to this new downtown business," said Andrew Wenthe, UIU Director of External Affairs/e-Center. "Upper Iowa is committed to helping to grow Fayette's economy by supporting a revitalized Main Street and by creating job opportunities for area residents."
The UIBD grant offers up to $40,000 per year to individuals interested in opening a new, re-located, or expanding business within the city of Fayette that will further economic growth. The grant was created through a $500,000 endowment by Upper Iowa University Board of Trustees President Bob Firth and his wife, Betty, who is also a trustee.
In addition to the UIBD grant program, Upper Iowa's e-Center will begin providing business and technical assistance, including website development, to area businesses this fall. The University is also working with the City of Fayette on a long-term downtown design plan.
