Senior from Oelwein first to exhibit in 2009
FAYETTE, Iowa (January 12, 2009) - A thesis exhibit by Upper Iowa University senior Ted Tollefson titled Notes from Oelwein opens the Bing-Davis Gallery spring schedule. The gallery is located in the Edgar Fine Arts Building on the Fayette campus.
Tollefson's show runs through January 30; an artist's reception is planned for Friday, Jan. 16 from 5 -7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
"Ideas for the exhibit emerged from a number of experiences I had as a student at Upper Iowa and resident of Oelwein," explained Tollefson. "I had an internship at the Oelwein Register that turned into a full-time job as a designer there, where I was responsible for designing most ads the publications printed." He added, "As a resident of Oelwein, I came in contact with many fascinating people and decided to make them the subject of my exhibit."
According to UIU Associate Art Professor John Siblik, "As Ted brought in ideas and images for discussion, it became apparent to me that he had immersed himself in his content, was able to move beyond the superficial, and was thinking and acting like an artist and storyteller--his subject being the people of Oelwein.
"For example, in his exhibit "Dave's Garage," Ted gives us a 360-degree view of Oelwein Register Production manager Dave Gelhausen's garage, where friends often gather. Ted has discovered that every man‘s story is real, valid, and worth telling."
Gallery hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. For questions regarding same, contact Siblik at 563-425-5241 or e-mail siblikj@uiu.edu.
