Inauguration open house at Upper Iowa University
FAYETTE, Iowa (January 15, 2009) - "A Witness to History: the inauguration of President Obama" open house will be held on the Upper Iowa University-Fayette campus in the East Café on Tuesday, Jan. 20 from 10:30 a.m - 2:30 p.m.
"This event is an opportunity to see history in the making and to share it with our students and community members," said Jamie Wildhage, director of student activities. "I welcome everyone to gather together and watch the inauguration of our nation's first African-American president."
Wildhage was recently hired at UIU from St. Ambrose where she worked in student activities as a graduate assistant. However, she originates from Illinois, where she has strong political ties to the Obama campaign through family and friends.
"The swearing in of Barack Obama is one of the most significant events to occur during my life time and for most of our Upper Iowa community members," said Wildhage. "I feel it's an exciting time filled with hope for improvement in our lives."
The ceremony will be shown on a large screen, and there will be light refreshments. The public is invited to attend. If you have questions, please contact Wildhage at wildhagej@uiu.edu or call 563-425-5311.
