Second IAC grant goes to UIU art professor
FAYETTE, Iowa (January 8, 2008) - For the second time, Upper Iowa University (UIU) art professor John Siblik has been awarded a grant from the Iowa Arts Council (IAC). In 2006, Siblik received an artist's grant that helped fund his environmental art project, River Weaving. The current grant is an art education grant in the amount of $1,200 that will be put toward his Saturday Art Program, which begins Jan. 26 and runs four consecutive Saturdays to Feb. 16. The program is for Fayette County children in grades 1 through 6.
"The primary goal of the Saturday Art Program at Upper Iowa is to provide a fine arts experience for the children of Northeast Iowa," said Siblik. "The secondary goal is to provide valuable teaching experience to our art education students here at Upper Iowa." Siblik added, "Throughout the year, these students work closely with both our education faculty and the Art Department to develop an innovative art curriculum that these children can benefit from."
Total cost of the program is $10, and includes a free T-shirt designed especially for the program by Siblik. An online application can be downloaded at www.uiu.edu/saturdayart/. Professor Siblik can be contacted direct at 563-425-5241 with any questions or e-mailed to siblikj@uiu.edu.
