UIU to honor Dr. King with local guest speaker
Fayette, Iowa (January 12, 2007) – Marcus Newsom will give a presentation to Upper Iowa University students entitled, "Celebrating the life and ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King" on Monday, Jan. 15. The program will be held in the Fayette Upper Iowa Room in Garbee Hall on the Fayette campus at 7:00 p.m.
Newsom, a Kansas City, Kan. native, is the award-winning head coach of the men’s and women’s track teams and diversity issues coordinator at Wartburg College. Newsom is a frequent speaker at local schools on the subject of diversity to help students understand and appreciate their differences.
According to UIU’s registrar’s office, Upper Iowa has 18 percent diversity on its Fayette campus. It is ranked among the highest when compared to the number of minority students at Iowa’s other private and state universities.
