UIU Team Peacock Kick-off Party
Upper Iowa University held its Team Peacock kick-off party on Saturday, Jan. 30 in the Jim Day Suite of Dorman Gymnasium on the Fayette campus. The event coincided with the Des Moines Register RAGBRAI Route Announcement Party being held in Des Moines, and with the UIU men’s and women’s home basketball games against Winona State.
Since 2005, Team Peacock has raised over $350,000 for student scholarships. The 2010 goal is to make it to an even $500,000.
The route was finally announced during the men's game, information received via live-streaming from the sold-out DesMoines event. RAGBRAII XXXVIII (July 25-31) will start at Sioux City, Storm Lake, Algona, Clear Lake, Charles City, Waterloo, Manchester, and end in Dubuque. According to the Register, it is the shortest, flattest route in RAGBRAI history at 442 miles (sixth shortest route), 14,527 elevation (fifth flattest route).
UIU President Alan G. Walker introduced some of the 2010 Team Peacock riders on the gym floor between games.
