UIU/NIACC sign Early Childhood Education articulation
FAYETTE, IA (December 14, 2009) – Upper Iowa University and North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) celebrated the announcement of a new Early Childhood Education articulation agreement on Friday, Dec. 11.
The agreement will make it possible for students to earn an Associate of Arts degree with coursework in early childhood education at NIACC in two years and transfer seamlessly to earn their Bachelor of Arts in prekindergarten-grade three education at Upper Iowa University.
“NIACC is proud of this new option we can provide to our students,” said Dr. Mark Johnson, NIACC vice president for academic affairs. “This agreement centers on providing a quality educational experience for our students and providing them with a convenient pathway to a bachelor’s degree. It is an exciting day to solidify yet another seamless path for our students to follow.”
Faculty from both institutions worked together to create this articulation agreement, in particular Dr. Gail Moorman Behrens, UIU director of teacher education, and Nancy Fallis, NIACC early childhood education instructor.
Behrens said, “The Iowa Department of Education is encouraging such agreements between community college early childhood programs and four-year colleges that offer early childhood teaching majors and endorsements, as the goal is for those who teach our youngest children to have four-year degrees.”
“We are very pleased and honored to have this new partnership with Upper Iowa University and for this opportunity to help our graduates make a smoother transition to Upper Iowa,” added Fallis.
