Nursing program receives full board approval
FAYETTE, IA (December 10, 2008) -Upper Iowa University's RN-BSN nursing degree program received full approval by the Iowa Board of Nursing last week.According to Dr. Margaret Wimmer Johnson, associate professor of nursing and director of nursing education, this is the final step in a process she has been working on since its inception in 2005. In April 2008, UIU's RN-BSN program received full accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, a national organization.
"This is the last major piece needed to help us advance our nursing program," said Wimmer. "We look forward to serving the people of Iowa for a long time into the future."
The Iowa Board of Nursing granted UIU's RN-BSN program maximum board approval for six years. It is affiliated with more than four dozen clinical facilities throughout the state, offered at the Fayette campus, the DesMoines center, and classes will begin at the Cedar Rapids location in January 2009. Over 50 students are currently enrolled, 21 have graduated to date, and one student has gone on to graduate school.
