Two UIU athletes honored in respective sports
Smith earns post-season honors Named to Daktronics All-Central Region second team
FAYETTE, Iowa (December 10, 2007) -- Upper Iowa University senior Lauren Smith from Flint, Mich. and women's soccer player was named to the Daktronics All-Region second team. Smith played every game this past season, dishing out 4 assists and scoring 9 goals, two of which were game winners. She finished tied for 5th in points and 7th in goals in the NSIC. Smith also received the honor of NSIC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week during the season.
"Lauren did a fantastic job on the right flank for us this season," said Head Coach Brian Bahl. "Her speed and technical creativity created a lot of opportunities for us throughout the year. Lauren always seemed to come up with the big one when we needed it most." Bahl added, "Her wonderful personality and positive spirit will be greatly missed next year."

Mumbulo Named NSIC Wrestler of the Week Wins 125-pound championship at Simpson Invite
FAYETTE, Iowa (December 10, 2007) -- Tyler Mumbulo, a junior from Bainbridge, New York, was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's (NSIC) Wrestler of the Week. This honor is the thirteenth NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year and third by a Peacock wrestler for the 2007-08 season. Mumbulo is a 2007 All American, two-time National Qualifier, and a two-time Regional Finalist. He also received the NSIC Wrestler of the Week award last season.
"Tyler was very offensive minded," said Head Coach Heath Grimm. "He was able to put his opponents in some vulnerable positions and did a great job finishing them off when they were in trouble." Grimm added, "Getting a pin is not an easy thing to do, but Tyler did a great job of it this weekend."
