UIU loves the State Fair
FAYETTE, Iowa (August 1, 2008) - "U Gotta Love It" is the theme for the 2008 Iowa State Fair and Upper Iowa University does. For the third consecutive year, UIU will be an exhibitor and on the final day again hold a drawing to award four one-year scholarships.
We are pleased to be part of the Fair again this year," said UIU President Alan Walker. "It's a great opportunity for us to exhibit 150 years of quality academics and explain our various educational options in one of Iowa's finest venues."
UIU junior Jason Lyman from Farragut, IA was Upper Iowa's first State Fair scholarship winner in 2006. He received a four-year scholarship; UIU switched to four one-year scholarships two years ago to provide opportunities for more students. In addition, daily drawings are held for college-level courses at the school's various centers.
Lyman attends the Upper Iowa Fayette campus, majoring in psychology and says, "Getting that four-year scholarship changed my life. The traditional college experience at a small, rural-based university like Upper Iowa has allowed me to succeed academically; and I have made many lifelong friends, including students, faculty and staff." He added, "It is something I will always be grateful for." Lyman is currently doing a summer internship on campus for UIU's Student Development Office.
To register for the drawing, visit the Upper Iowa booth in the Varied Industries Building August 7-17 from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. daily. Participants need not be present to win.
