NICC and UIU Partner in 2+2 Plan

CALMAR, Iowa (August 24, 2007)--The 2+2 plan between Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) and Upper Iowa University (UIU) will provide seamless bachelor degree completion options for NICC students. With an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree, their credits will be guaranteed to transfer to UIU's residential, online, external degree or off-campus center programs.
NICC and UIU will partner to assist students in academic advising and transfer planning. "With the proper guidance, a student can easily come to NICC for two years, transfer to UIU and graduate with a bachelor's degree within four years," said Curt Oldfield, NICC's vice president of academic affairs.
Both institutions are committed to helping all students learn and succeed. "The increased availability of online and evening courses has made it much easier for students with family, work and other commitments to obtain their degree," says Oldfield.
NICC, for example, offers an evening AA-Business Administration degree option. Students in this program take two courses in the evening, one night each week for eight weeks. These are hybrid courses, meaning a portion of the class is taught in the traditional classroom setting and the remainder is taught online. This format utilizes the online format to add flexibility but still gives students some classroom time to allow for faculty-student interaction.
UIU also offers various online and external degree options that allow students to study at times and locations convenient to them. "This agreement will ultimately allow NICC students to stay close to home to complete their bachelor degree with a well-known, local partner in a flexible manner," stated Oldfield.
NICC maintains articulations with a number of accredited colleges and universities as a part of its vision to meet educational needs of learners. This partnership is another example of NICC's student driven and community focused mission.
