Upper Iowa University Fine Arts Series kicks off Aug. 28
Fayette, Iowa (August 17, 2006)—Upper Iowa University’s annual Fine Arts Series to be hosted on the Fayette campus will feature nine events. This year’s lineup is designed to be a celebration of diverse cultures through entertainment and cultural education.
Kicking off the series on Monday, Aug. 28 is the Anthem Reggae Band, a uniquely diverse group offering both roots and dancehall reggae music. Then, back by popular demand, Salsa Magic & Instructional Workshop will perform on Monday, Sept. 18. Come join the fun as this high-energy dance company entertains the crowd with Salsa and Latin dancing that includes audience interaction, magic and illusions.
Islanders Tropical Band will perform Sept. 25; a Leadership Speaker will focus on the Leader in (U)IU, Sept. 27; and the nine-member group Locos Por Juana Latin Band will mix pop, salsa, timba, ska, reggae, and meringue into a high-spirited blend on Sept. 28.
The world-renowned African Children’s Choir™ will perform on Upper Iowa’s Fayette campus on Oct. 1. The African Children’s Choir™ is comprised of children age seven to eleven, serving as ambassadors for all children in Africa who have become orphans because of the AIDS pandemic. The African Children’s Choir™ is their voice to the rest of the world, performing throughout the world in order to shine the spotlight on the plight of children in Africa.
Massive Monkeys will perform old-school break dancing, mind-boggling acrobatics and modern dance choreography on Oct. 3; Native American flutist Juan Cruz will perform Nov. 9; and the series will end with Local Authors Night on Nov. 21.
The public is invited to attend all performances free of charge.
