UIU announces 2008 honors and awards scholarship recipients
Fayette, Iowa (April 21, 2008) - The 23rd annual Upper Iowa University Honors and Awards Banquet was held on Saturday, April 5 on the Fayette campus. The recognition ceremony included 146 merit-based financial awards given to deserving students.
"The Honors and Awards ceremony recognizes the outstanding achievements of Upper Iowa University's best and brightest students," said UIU President Alan Walker. "One of this institution's most important responsibilities and challenges is to provide a high-quality education that is affordable, and to graduate students with as little debt as possible."
Walker added, "Towards this end, Upper Iowa has a fine legacy and is leading the way among its peer institutions. This is only possible through the generous financial contributions that come from faculty, staff, alums, and friends of the University." He also mentioned that Upper Iowa has doubled the value of the scholarships and awards due to successful fundraising activities such as UIU's Team Peacock riding RAGBRAI.
