UIU Sr. art show to feature charcoal drawings
Jessica Ryan’s exhibit to run May 2-10, 2007
FAYETTE, IOWA (April 19, 2007) – Upper Iowa University senior Jessica Ryan will graduate in May with a double major in Art and Fitness. Ryan’s senior art show will feature selected drawings in the medium she feels she has become most adept in—charcoal.
"When I came to Upper Iowa, I started using charcoal and it has become the medium that is the most efficient for me," said Ryan. "I say this because I tend to draw very slowly and am somewhat of a perfectionist, so drawing with charcoal has helped me speed up the process." Ryan went on to say, "The human figure is my favorite subject to draw. I believe it is God’s most beautiful and complex creation."
Fitness is Ryan’s other major, with the game of softball being one of her favorite sports to watch and play. "After graduation, I am planning to go on to get my masters in Art Education so I can teach high school art and also coach softball," said Ryan.
Ryan’s exhibit will be on display from May 2-10 in the Henderson-Wilder Library (lower level) on the Upper Iowa University Fayette campus. A reception to meet the artist is planned for Thursday, May 3 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
