John Siblik, UIU associate professor of art and dean for the School of Liberal Arts, puts the finishing touches on a landscape portrait that will be featured in "Landscape: Upper Iowa University Throughout the Ages," an exhibition at Edgar Fine Arts Hall running now through August 22.
FAYETTE, Iowa (July 31, 2014) – Celebrating 157 years of art and the changing landscape of Upper Iowa University, the Art Department will host a family barbecue Tuesday, August 19, from 5-8 p.m. at Edgar Fine Arts Hall on the Fayette campus. This special night of fellowship will cap off a month-long exhibition currently under way in the Bing-Davis Gallery that commemorates the history of UIU's Art Department and features a survey of landscape paintings of the UIU campus by alumni, students, faculty and former staff members.
"Landscape: Upper Iowa University Through the Ages," curated by John Siblik, associate professor of art and dean for the School of Liberal Arts, provides an artist's view of the history and transformation of the campus from 1857 to the present. Several paintings are on loan from former faculty and staff members for this show only and are unique in style and viewpoint.
"We are very excited to showcase our beloved Upper Iowa campus throughout the ages and to create awareness for our esteemed art faculty members from the past and the present," said Siblik. "There are several pieces that are remarkable in their technique and subject matter. We look forward to sharing this rich history with other members of the community."
Original pieces and prints will be available for purchase at the August 19 event to support the Liberal Arts Dean's Fund. The family-friendly event will provide a social opportunity for UIU staff, faculty, alumni and the community. Children's art activities will be led by UIU students while guests enjoy musical entertainment, a free-will donation barbecue meal and cash bar.
Those wishing to attend are invited to RSVP to the UIU Advancement & Alumni Office by calling 563-425-5388 or emailing email@example.com by August 12.
