FAYETTE, Iowa (September 20, 2013) – Iowa Senator Rob Hogg will speak on the topic of climate change in, "A Call to Climate Action – America's New National Purpose," on the Upper Iowa University campus Tuesday, October 1, at 7:00 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. This event is open to the public
Hogg is the author of America's Climate Century and is serving his second term in the Iowa Senate after two terms in the Iowa House. He served as chairman of the Senate Rebuild Iowa Committee after devastating floods hit 87 of Iowa's 99 counties in 2008, causing approximately $10 billion in damage. He is recognized as a leader in the Iowa Legislature on climate change, renewable energy, energy efficiency, disaster preparedness, watershed management and natural resources.
His visit to Upper Iowa University is part of a tour of Iowa colleges to promote his new book and talk about climate action. In his book, Hogg calls on Americans to make the fight against climate change our new national purpose. "Climate change is the defining historical challenge of this century," he said. "Americans need to lead the world in the fight for survival and sustainability.
"The fight against climate change means slashing greenhouse gas emissions by moving beyond fossil fuels at the same time safeguarding our people and property from more frequent and severe climate disasters."
Hogg will donate a copy of his book to Upper Iowa's Henderson-Wilder Library. Upper Iowa University's Science and Environmental Club in partnership with the Office of Student Development are sponsoring this event.
