FAYETTE, Iowa (March 25 , 2013) – Upper Iowa University's Writing Center will host the fourth Iowa Writing Center Consortium retreat on Friday, April 5. This annual event is an opportunity for writing center professionals and peer writing consultants from educational institutions throughout Iowa and the surrounding area to meet for professional development activities, whether they be from high schools, public, private or independent colleges. Participants will discuss, reflect and learn about writing center practices and exchange ideas on how to support the writing culture at their respective institutions.
Writing center student consultants and writing support professionals from writing centers in the area will present on writing center pedagogy and practices for the benefit of their peers. Writing center student consultants are also encouraged to meet with their fellow peers during the day and consider the benefits of writing consulting to their careers after college.
The UIU Writing Center, operating under the Department of Academic Affairs, is in its third year at Upper Iowa, and is organizing this year's conference in collaboration with the student-led social entrepreneurship organization UIU ENACTUS which created a website, http://uiu.edu/IWCC, that allows people to register for the conference.
On Thursday, April 4, UIU ENACTUS is hosting an open mic event at Pavo Blue at 6:30 p.m., to allow visitors to familiarize themselves with Fayette's atmosphere and socialize a day prior to the conference.
The Iowa Writing Center Consortium is a subsidiary of the Midwest Writing Centers Association.
