Upper Iowa University hires former Starmont School District principal Sue Burrack; names Mackin 'Master of Education' chair
FAYETTE, Iowa (January 16, 2013) – Upper Iowa University announces the hiring of Sue Burrack as an assistant professor of education and the promotion of Dr. R. Kevin Mackin to the newly created position of chair of UIU's master of education program. Both began their new positions this month.
Burrack is teaching courses in the teacher education program at Upper Iowa, including some formerly taught by Mackin. She taught secondary language arts, developmental reading and careers courses at Starmont Schools, Arlington, Iowa, before becoming a curriculum coordinator and principal at Starmont. She served as a school administrator for that district for several years before coming to the
University.
Burrack earned a bachelor's degree (English education major, business minor) and a master's of education/principalship from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. She also has a reading endorsement and multi-occupations endorsement.
Mackin was hired by the University in July 2012 and served as an assistant professor of education instructing teacher education courses and courses in the graduate program prior to becoming the master of education chair. Before coming to Upper Iowa, Mackin was a faculty member of the graduate teaching licensure program at the College St. Scholastica in St. Paul, Minn. He has several years of experience as a high school teacher and principal and as an education consultant and writer.
Mackin has a bachelor's degree in secondary education from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, a master's in counseling and student personnel psychology from the University of Minnesota, an ED.S. in educational administration from the University of St. Thomas and an Ed.D. in educational leadership from Bethel University.
