FAYETTE, Iowa (August 19, 2013) – Musical performances, art exhibitions and live poetry will star this fall and winter at Upper Iowa University. A Fine Arts Series, free and open to the public, will begin at the end of August and last through December. Events featured include:
Wednesday, August 28 - Six Appeal, an a cappella singing group performing songs from a variety of genres. Performance time is 7 p.m. in Grace Meyer Square (rain location is the UIU Student Center Ballroom).
Thursday, August 29 – "Conifer: Choreography in Clay and Glass" artwork exhibition at Bing Davis Memorial Gallery in Edgar Fine Arts Hall. The opening will be held August 29 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Show closes October 4.
Thursday, September 19 – spoken-word poetry event featuring Brandon "Xplicit" Thornton and friends at 8:30 p.m. in the UIU Student Center Ballroom.
Friday, September 20 – Las Guitarras de Mexico, a quartet performing traditional rhythms and ballads beginning at 7 p.m. at the Fayette Opera House.
Thursday, October 3 – Chad Elliot with Bonita Crowe will perform a blend of Americana, folk and country music at 8 p.m. in Grace Meyer Square (rain location is the UIU Student Center Ballroom).
Saturday, October 19 – "Small Part of the Big World," a photography exhibition by Dano Grayson '10, will run during Homecoming weekend through November 15 at the Bing Davis Art Gallery in Edgar Fine Arts Hall. A special reception will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. October 19.
Thursday, November 21 – "This means this. This means that." by Catherine Dreiss, an exhibition featuring works with woodcuts based on photographs and patterns will run through December 20 in Bing Davis Art Gallery in Edgar Fine Arts Hall. A special opening event will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. November 21.
