UIU awards 4 scholarships, 11 free courses during Iowa State Fair
UIU President Alan G. Walker pulls the names of the winners of 4 UIU scholarships during the Iowa State Fair.
FAYETTE, Iowa (September 14, 2011) — Upper Iowa University has announced the names of the 15 individuals who won scholarships and free courses during the Iowa State Fair recently. Upper Iowa hosts a booth during the State Fair each year, sponsoring a drawing for four one-year, tuition scholarships to the UIU campus in Fayette, as well as for one UIU free course each day of the Fair, a total of 11 free courses. The courses can be taken at a UIU education center, online or as independent study.
"We change people’s lives when we award these scholarships and free courses," said UIU President Alan G. Walker. "When these students become part of Upper Iowa University, they have the opportunity to get a college education that will prepare them for something greater in their lives. We are proud to be able to give them that boost."
"These 11 days at the Fair are always very exciting for Upper Iowa University,” added Melik Peter Khoury, senior vice president. “We meet people of all ages and types. Some of them know a lot about Upper Iowa; some are learning about the opportunities we offer for the first time. It’s a great experience for our UIU volunteers to share the University’s story with future students, parents, and UIU alums."
