Upper Iowa University partners with Goodyear in Lawton, Okla.
FAYETTE, Iowa (July 15, 2011) — Upper Iowa University has signed an agreement with the Lawton, Okla., plant of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company to make UIU a preferred provider of educational services for Goodyear employees and their spouses.
Through the UIU Corporate Advantage program, UIU will waive admission fees and offers a reduced tuition rate for classes taught at the plant as well as for UIU online and independent study courses. The first classes begin in July. UIU offers a new class term every eight weeks, year-round.
“The University was founded nearly 155 years ago by a family who wanted to offer a quality education close to home, and we’re pleased that UIU continues that tradition today,” said UIU President Alan G. Walker. “Through our educational centers, online programming, and innovative corporate partnerships such as these, we still offer access to fully accredited, quality educational programs where students live”
Wayne Converse, executive director of UIU’s South Central Region, said the partnership with Goodyear is a win-win for both organizations. “Most Goodyear employees work on 12-hour shifts and by bringing the classes to them, it really provides the flexibility and service Goodyear was looking for in an educational provider.” The program will be administered by UIU’s educational center on Fort Sill.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our associates and we already have a handful enrolled in the upcoming course,” said Rhonda Brown, human resources manager at Goodyear. “I think it’s fantastic that UIU is coming on site. This represents a convenience for our associates who work shifts.”
