Upper Iowa University awards 139 merit scholarships to deserving students

Kristina Martin, Fayette, Iowa, was presented the Carlton W. Knight and Maxine R. Knight Endowed Scholarship by President Alan G. Walker.
Fayette, Iowa (April 28, 2010) — Upper Iowa University recently held its 25th annual Scholarships and Awards Recognition Banquet, awarding 114 individual merit scholarships to Fayette campus students and 25 to students who attend the UIU Academic Extension locations. The formal dinner and ceremony were held Saturday, March 27.
UIU President Alan G. Walker welcomed the students and their guests. “It is through the true generosity and support of so many benefactors—alumni, friends of the University, and corporate sponsors—that these scholarship opportunities are possible,” he said. “We are truly grateful to each of you for helping make a difference in our student’s lives.”
Walker’s RAGBRAI Team Peacock scholarship fundraising campaign alone is responsible for adding $350,000 to the general scholarship fund over the past five years. The 2010 goal is to reach $500,000 by raising $150,000 from this year’s ride.
