Program Purpose and Goals
The purpose of Upper Iowa University's RN-BSN program is to assist you, the registered nurse, in developing the skills you need to be successful in a rapidly changing environment of health care delivery. In addition, the program is designed to prepare you for advancement to leadership positions and/or graduate education. Upper Iowa University's RN-BSN program emphasizes critical thinking which develops leadership skills. Our specific program goals are listed below. By the end of the RN-BSN program you will be able to:
Goal 1. Integrate theoretical knowledge and evidence-based practice in a collaborative health care delivery environment.
Goal 2. Demonstrate leadership and teamwork to improve outcomes in a variety of settings.
Goal 3. Manage technology and resources to communicate, support and provide quality care across the health care continuum.
Goal 4. Develop practices of life-long learning through seeking knowledge and assimilating professional standards, ethical principles, and legal accountability in nursing practice.
We help you meet these goals through educational experiences in the classroom and in the clinical area that will help you learn, practice, and become proficient at the skills needed for leadership and for beginning graduate work. We are committed to developing the nursing leader of today and tomorrow. Upper Iowa University has been developing leaders in many fields since 1857…the nursing program continues that tradition!
