The exercise and sports studies program offers a core curriculum with emphases in sport administration, exercise science and fitness and wellness. These areas of study prepare students for careers related to physical activity such as personal trainers, strength and conditioning specialists, athletic directors or sport managers, park and recreation directors and to prepare students for graduate school in areas such as chiropractic and physical therapy. All students must select an emphasis area and complete those courses in addition to the core courses.

Sport Administration Emphasis
The emphasis in sport administration is designed for those students who would like to pursue careers such as athletic director or sports management. Students will study both science based and business based courses to prepare themselves for this career track. This emphasis includes a six credit internship. Other possible careers include:

Fitness and Wellness

Fitness and Wellness Emphasis
The emphasis in fitness and wellness is designed for those students who want to pursue a career in the fitness industry. Academic courses are a mix of science, psychology, activity classes, sport nutrition, and basic care and prevention of athletic injuries. This emphasis includes a six credit internship. Students who complete the fitness and wellness emphasis will be prepared to seek certification as a personal trainer or take the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam. Other possible careers include:

• Strength and Conditioning Coaching
• Group Fitness Instruction
• Health Club or Fitness Center Management

Exercise Science Emphasis
The emphasis in exercise science is designed for those students who want to pursue a career in exercise physiology, kinesiology or other fields related to physical activity. This emphasis has a strong science focus, plus courses such as sport nutrition, psychology, sport law and first aid. There is also a six credit internship. The exercise science emphasis also prepares students to attend graduate school in physical therapy or chiropractic. Other possible careers include:
