Harms-Eischeid Stadium is the home of Peacock football and will soon house the women's lacrosse team beginning in the 2019-20 academic year. Upper Iowa played their first football game in the newly-transformed Harms-Eischeid Stadium on Sept. 8, 2012 against St. Cloud State University. The 6 p.m. kickoff marked the first home night game in the program's history.
Upper Iowa University received a $7.5 million gift to fund the renovation of the stadium. Steve and Diane Harms of West Des Moines, Iowa, presented the gift to the University to conclude the silent phase of UIU's first-ever comprehensive capital campaign.
The Harms' gift completely renovated the UIU football field and stadium by providing an all-weather turf surface and field lighting, significantly increased seating capacity, enhanced sound system, professional grade scoreboard with a large-screen video, and a multi-use press box.
Steve Harms earned his bachelor's degree in physical education at UIU, where he played football. Diane Harms graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from UIU, where she was a cheerleader. Steve is currently a member of the UIU Board of Trustees. He and Diane served as two of the three co-chairs of the UIU capital campaign.
FORMERLY EB EISCHEID STADIUM
Eb Eischeid Stadium was the competition home of the Peacock football team built in 1985. The transformed Harms-Eischeid Stadium is built on top of the old stadium. The natural grass field was one of the best fields in all of Iowa. Estimated seating for the stadium was 3,500 including the hillsides that fans packed into on both sides of the home grandstand for each home game.
The stadium is located between the Eischeid Softball Complex and Pattison Field on Kornhill Road in Fayette.
The stadium was originally named for Everett "Eb" Eischeid. Eischeid played his first game for Upper Iowa in 1934. It was the beginning of four years of gridiron greatness. He was often described as a natural talent. Following his graduation, he spent several seasons coaching in Iowa high schools, but Eischeid returned to Fayette to assist "Doc" Dorman in 1955. He took over as the head coach in 1960 and remained at the helm until 1968. He accumulated a career record of 46-28 including two eight-win seasons. The 1964 team went 8-1, while the 1966 team went 8-2.
