History

History is a new major at UIU. Students will take a methods course and a capstone research course, as well as electives in U.S. history and world history, social justice-based courses, and advanced courses related to history in other disciplines.
Courses in the social justice category include Women’s History, African American History, and Global Women’s Activism. All of these courses require students to consider why certain groups of people have been oppressed in history, and what they did to achieve - or not - some measure of social justice.
A major in history works well as part of a double major or paired with several minors. Completion of a history major can lead to careers in teaching, government agencies, politics or the foreign service, as well as working with historical societies or libraries. A history major is also good pre-professional preparation for graduate school or law school.
LOCATION: Main residential campus in Fayette, Iowa, UIU Educational Centers, Online, and Independent Study Program.
