The following information is for undergraduate students who are studying at one of UIU’s Upper Iowa University’s international centers outside of the United States and students studying through the international online Masters of Business Administration. Applicants to international programs must submit the following documents in order to complete the International Student Admission Application:


  • Your completed Application for Admission
  • Official transcripts from each location where post secondary credit was earned
  • A Certified True copy of your credential verifying completion of secondary education
  • To be considered for admission, international applicants must provide verification of English language proficiency by submitting official result for one of the following exams:
    • Submit official result for one of the following exams: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) http://www.toefl.com (minimum TOEFL score: paper-based 500, computer-based 173, or TOEFL-iBT score of at least 61), or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) http://www.1sa.umich.edu/eli/melab.htm (base score: 69) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) http://www.ielts.org/ (minimum IELTS 5.0), or Malaysia University Examination Test (MUET) http://www.mpm.edu.my/ (minimum MUET 4.0).

International Center Program learners should check their local center for test availability and requirements.

International Center Program Registration

Registration materials are available at each international center office for new and currently enrolled students approximately four weeks before the start of each term.

Tuition and Fees

Each international center or program has specific fees based on local pricing and country. Tuition and any course-related fees are due at the time of registration or by the first night of class unless other arrangements are made available by the center. You may request a full list of tuition and fees from the international center.

Term Dates and Program Information

Center specific term dates, programs and majors offered are available at each center.

International Center Course Delivery and Schedule

The goal of Upper Iowa University is to offer its curriculum on a schedule that allows learners to take courses and continue their careers. Course delivery and schedule vary by center. Some international centers offer courses on an eight week schedule, while others follow a semester schedule. Check with your international center to determine the course schedule offered in your area.

Changes in Center Program Registration, Refund Policy, and Course Withdrawal

To make registration changes, withdraw from a course, or inquire about refund policy, you must contact international center staff.

Record Maintenance

All official records are maintained at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, USA. While you may submit documents to your international center, all official copies will be sent for your permanent record in the U.S. You may request a student or official copy of your Upper Iowa University transcript at any time. (For information on requesting a transcript from UIU, please ask the international center staff.)

Administrative Withdrawal

International center staff will initiate the administrative withdrawal procedure when absences have exceeded the international center’s attendance policy and a staff member will contact you if you are in danger of receiving an AW for a course. In the absence of extenuating circumstances, a grade of AW will be recorded and you will be removed from the class.

Excused Absences/Leaves of Absence

Upper Iowa University does not distinguish between types of absences. Official leaves of absence are not granted. Records on tardiness are not maintained by the Registrar's Office.

Class Attendance

As an Upper Iowa University learner, you are expected to attend class regularly and promptly in order to do satisfactory work. While attendance will not be used in grade determination, class participation requirements are set forth by individual instructors. These expectations may be more stringent in some classes than others. When you must be absent from class because of illness or emergency, you are expected to arrange for the completion of make-up tests or homework with the individual faculty member(s). These arrangements are to be made prior to the incurred absence, except in emergency situations.

Transferring to Other UIU Locations

Distance Learning

International Program learners may choose to enroll in the Online and Independent Study Program courses. Tuition for these courses is separate from tuition paid at your local center. More information about each program can be found in this catalog or at www.uiu.edu.
