Roger Bowen - Class of 1955
UIU Alumni Award for Service to the University
Roger Bowen earned his Bachelor of Science in History and Business Administration at Upper Iowa University in 1955. He worked at UIU in various roles from 1956 until 1978. From 1963-1967 and again from 1969-1978 he served as the registrar. In addition to his official roles at the University, he and Charles Clark also co-authored the UIU book "University Company C" which chronicled the life of the Civil War regiment from UIU. Roger was a mainstay at UIU for over 20 years, his service not only to UIU, but the students and faculty that worked here during his tenure is something that comes up with almost every alumnus from that era. Roger and his wife Dot were supporters of the initiatives and programs that were established by Dr. Eugene Garbee and were also quite helpful in the development of the correspondence program. His contributions to the "best times" of UIU's history (in development and enrollment) are unmatched by any administrator at that time. He has kept in good contact and assisted the alumni office with piecing together stories of faculty and alumni from his time in years since. He is and will always be a "True Blue Peacock."
