Dr. Jamie Bunn - Class of 1992
UIU Alumni Award for Professional Development
Jamie decided to attend UIU to stay close to the family farming operation in Westgate. After receiving a double major in conservation management and biology, with a minor in math, Jamie attended the University of Iowa for two years as a graduate assistant. It was there he decided to pursue his love of animals and enrolled at ISU in the Veterinary Program, graduating in 1998. Following his wife's medical training, Jamie moved to Flint, Michigan for the next three years. While working in Flint, Dr. Bunn was honored with being named the Genessee County Veterinarian of year.
In 2001, Dr. Bunn and his wife, Dr. Olesen, were able to relocate back to the Des Moines area, where Jamie purchased the Waukee Vet Clinic. In the past 11 years, Jamie has been able to build a successful vet practice, beginning with four employees in 2001 and growing to 15 employees and has built a new building for the practice. To keep current, Dr. Bunn is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Greater Des Moines Veterinary Medical Association, and the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association. He previously served as the head of public relations of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association. Jamie also believes in giving back to the community. He is registered as a Badge Coordinator for Boy Scouts, as well as the 2011-2012 president of the West Des Moines Rotary, where his membership began in 2002.
