Program Requirements
The UIU Information Technology major requires successful completion of 56 credits in the major, as well as completing support courses in writing, math, and statistics.
Required coursework includes the following:
- Introduction to Information Technology
- Programming Fundamentals (Java)
- Computer Architecture
- Operating Systems
- Networking
- Web Systems
- Databases
- Human Computer Interaction & Professional Issues
- IT Systems
- Information Assurance & Security
- Capstone I
- Capstone II
By combining 6-7 hours of elective courses in management information systems, numerical analysis, systems analysis and design, advanced computer programming, and information systems strategies, IT students develop a specialization in the major. Available specializations are:
- Game Development
- IT Infrastructure Administration
- Network Administration
- Security
- Web Development
UIU students also may complete at IT minor by successfully completing 21-23 credits from available IT coursework.
IT Online Major
UIU is completing preparations to launch an online IT major that utilizes computer-based coursework, video presentations, and virtual webs to provide the same quality academic program that is offered on campus. Details will be coming soon.
