Honors Program
Creation of the Honors Program was made possible by a gift from Barbara (Rankin) Csomay, class of 1946.
The Honors Program at Upper Iowa University provides an exciting and challenging academic experience for exceptional students. Students who have at least a 26 ACT score and at least a 3.5 high school grade point average are invited to apply to the program. Students who don't quite meet the 26 ACT score and 3.5 high school grade point average are welcome to apply if they believe they can make a strong case for their consideration.
Exceptional transfer students who are interested in the Honors Program should contact the Director of the Honors Program for application requirements and details.
Honors students can reside on the Honors floor located in one of the suite-style residence halls.
Students admitted to the Honors Program in any given year take the same courses as their fellow Honors students during the first two years of their undergraduate years. Each course generally is interdisciplinary and team taught, with active, participatory learning. All honors courses require extensive, integrated, advanced writing skills. The program begins with an Honors Freshmen Seminar followed by and Honors courses in Arts and Humanities, Behavioral Sciences, Natural Sciences. Other courses are offered for each term. Seniors complete an honors project and a thesis in their area of interest. Student that successful complete the Honors Program will graduate with University Honors. Extra-curricular experiences such as service learning, attending professional conferences, and other special events are an integral part of the program.
"When you are analyzing your options, consider both the academic side of the university as well as the non-academic side. Overall, Upper Iowa is a great place to be."

"UIU gives you a great opportunity to receive an education at a university where you feel valued. I love the small school atmosphere and how professors are able to give personal hands-on help with the smaller class sizes. The eight-week terms help a lot to make you very successful as a student."
