Strategic Plan Refreshment: On Hold

A Strategic Plan Refreshment process was begun in 2012 to look at the progress made under the 2008 Strategic Plan and to refine and update the plan. However with the departure of President Walker, the refreshment process has been put on hold awaiting selection of a new UIU president.
BACKGROUND
Since 2004, there has been a newly determined effort to build on UIU's historic strengths and to reinterpret them for the rapidly evolving educational environment of the 21st century. Strategic initiatives launched in 2004 were followed in 2007 by a more comprehensive and formal strategic planning process that included a campus-led reexamination and rearticulation of UIU's mission and vision. The final version of the plan that emerged from a comprehensive 11-month process was approved by the Board of Trustees in 2008.

WHY A "REFRESHMENT"
A discussion began in April 2011 about updating the then three-year-old strategic plan. The updating was not intended to repeat the detailed process of creating a new strategic plan, UIU had accomplished that in 2007/08, but rather to "refresh" the existing plan with the next transformative ideas that would continue the strategic advancement of UIU, to insure that past accomplishments were not lost, were sustained, but set the path for the continuing strategic progress of the University.

Latest Update: Notes of the May 8 meeting and expectations for September 26 meeting
Since the first strategic plan refreshment conversations in 2011 these steps have been accomplished:
- In May/June 2011 approximately 55 interviews were conducted in order to develop a "findings" report that created a consensus for the next strategic priorities of UIU;
- On August 31, 2011 the "findings" were presented to the campus wide community so that they understood the strategic priorities, appreciated the shortened "refreshment" process, and saw for the first time the four strategic planning objectives that emerged from the "findings" report;
Download the "findings" report as a pdf document - The four planning objectives from the "findings" report assigned to four free standing Task Forces were:
