Upper Iowa University invites applications for a Director of Accounting. This full-time position will assume responsibility for oversight of general accounting and compliance and will be the primary liaison with the external auditor. The Director of Accounting will develop and maintain the University's financial accounting system to account for the receipt and expenditure of all funds and to report operating results to the administration and external agencies in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), government regulations and industry best practices. This position is also responsible for preparation of financial statements and footnotes, supporting schedules and analyses, and providing auditors with all requested documentation as required. The Director will review and prepare ledger adjustments; oversee the administration of university grants, property and general accounting records.
Qualifications: CPA required, with seven years' experience in applying advanced accounting skills or five years managing an accounting operation within Higher Education. Strong technical and computer skills required with highly developed attention to detail. Ability to effectively manage deadlines and multiple priorities. Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment and show initiative when resolving issues. Strong work ethic. Ability to handle stressful situations. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Preference will be given to candidates who have experience leading external audit processes.

Information Technology Enterprise Systems Specialist

Upper Iowa University, a private, not-for-profit university providing educational excellence and leadership development to over 6,000 students – both nationally and internationally – is conducting a search for two ESL instructors for the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program. Please note that this is a 12-month, non-tenure track, staff position beginning fall 2013.
The ideal candidate will teach a variety of intensive English courses for approximately 16 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. Other primary responsibilities include the following: advising students, attending faculty and committee meetings, developing and implementing curriculum, conducting placement testing, contributing to new student orientation, driving for and help leading ESL field trips, collaborating with the ESL endorsement program, and gaining professional development. This means a strong ability to communicate clearly and concisely with students, faculty, staff, administration, partners, and the public is necessary. For the 2013 – 2014 academic year, assisting the ESL Director in seeking CEA accreditation will be a main focus. A summer ESL program will be in the near future, and helping the ESL Director in the implementation of the program and teaching for it will be expected. All of these responsibilities are to be carried out in a collegial atmosphere where creativity and institutional research are valued.
Candidates must possess a M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), M.A. in Applied Linguistics, M.A. in Second Language Acquisition, or equivalent master's degree from an accredited college or university; have ESL teaching experience in a university-affiliated intensive English program; and be able to demonstrate effective ESL instructional strategies. Active involvement in the field of TESOL as well as fluency in a second language is preferred. Appropriate computer skills and familiarity with Excel, Word, and other Microsoft products is essential.

Assistant Director for Education Abroad

The candidate will serve as the primary resource for Upper Iowa University on all issues regarding international recruitment and enrollment.
