Howard K. Fischer


President and CEO, U.S. Roasterie, Des Moines U.S. Roasterie roasts coffee for office, vending, C-store, and foodservice channels. Fischer's other work experience includes owner of U.S. Coffee from 1981-2006 and Continental Coffee from 1971-81. He has also served as a lecturer for Drake University Business School, consultant for the Small Business Development Conference, and consultant for Food Service Industry. Fischer is also a member of the board for National Automatic Merchandising Assoc. (NAMA)

 Barry Smith


Business entrepreneur and start-up expert, working with various businesses looking to expand in the Cedar Rapids area

Smith's past positions include teaching in the Maquoketa Valley Schools and engineering positions at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, IA, and for McDonnell Aircraft, where he worked on the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space programs. He has also worked with projects involving computer memory fabrication techniques.

Dr. Kurt Wood


A native of Oelwein, Iowa, Wood is a 1976 graduate of Upper Iowa University and a 1979 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic. While maintaining a private practice in Wisconsin, Dr. Wood served in various administrative positions at Northwestern Health Science University from 1987-2006. From 2006-2014 he was Vice Chancellor for Clinic Affairs at Palmer College of Chiropractic, thereafter joining the UIU administration as the University’s first Provost. While on Upper Iowa’s Board, Wood functioned as chair of the Student Affairs Committee, and later the Residential University Committee, and was elected to the Board’s Executive Committee as Board Secretary. For his service as an Upper Iowa University trustee for 17 years, Wood was named trustee emeritus in 2009.
